Dish's Golden Globe Predictions/Wishes:

I cannot wait to hear what Ricky Gervais says! His malice is so refreshing. I won't tarry with my choices:

MOVIES

Best Picture--Drama: The Descendants (my wish is for Moneyball but Clooney is the Golden God)

Best Actress--Drama: Viola Davis for The Help (movie slow but Viola is awesome, understated and shows acting can be good without all the prosthetics)

Best Actor--Drama: George Clooney in The Descending Testicles zzzzzz (my wish is for Brad Pitt in Moneyball)

Best Picture--Comedy: The Artist

Best Actress--Comedy: Michelle Williams for My Week With Marilyn (Give her a bone)

Best Actor--Comedy: Jean Dujardin for The Artist (It must be)

Supporting Actress: Berenice Bejo

Supporting Actor: Viggo Mortensen (playing Freud, though Kenneth Branagh and Jonah Hill were brilliant and I would not choose them b/c Jonah's too young, My Week with Marilyn wasn't amazing)

Best Foreign Film: In the Land of Blood and Honey

Best Animated Feature: Rango (I have no idea)

Best Director: Michel Hazanavicius (He did something DIFFERENT and artful!)

Best Screenplay: The Descendants

Best Original Score: The Artist

Best Song: "Hello, Hello" from Gnomeo & Juliet (I have no idea)

TELEVISION:

Best Series--Drama: Game of Thrones (though my choice is Breaking Bad) though split on American Horror Story and Homeland. Crap! I don't know.

Best Actress--Drama: Mireille Enos in The Killing

Best Actor--Drama: Bryan Cranston in Breaking Bad

Best Series--Comedy: Modern Family

Best Actress--Comedy: Zooey Deschanel of New Girl (I predict an upset)

Best Actor--Comedy: Alec Baldwin of 30 Rock

Best Miniseries: Downtown Abbey (everyone's squealing over this)

Best Actress in a Miniseries: Elizabeth McGovern for Downtown Abbey (because I love her to death since Ordinary People playing Janine Pratt!)

Best Actor in a Miniseries: Hugh Bonneville in Downtown Abbey. He just rocks in general, amazing body of work. Amazing body.

Best Supporting Actor in Miniseries/Series: Sofia Vergara of Modern Family(just for gorgeous boobs alone)

Best Supporting Actress in Miniseries/Series: Peter Dinklage in Game of Thrones (I've never seen this but he's consistently awesome but I'd be delighted with Eric Stonestreet)

The Host with The Most Is Back...

Ladies and Gentlemen, you can all breathe a sigh of relief. The paler than Dish host you want has materialized, just in time to retrieve the wreckage from the bottom of the barrel. Richard Simmons's Billy Crystal's mighty pecs quiver with manliness as he stares down at the pitiful, unfunny, waste of time the Oscars have been in recent years with much funnier yet less-magic-touch-possessing hosts. BC nestles the limp phallus that was the mighty Oscars in his loving, ripped arms. Will Oscar live again? (wish Ricky could have done 2 shows...)

Just caught up on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Did Kelsey Grammer *really* cross-dress? No biggie, I mean, I learned on Divorce Court that this *is* a hetero thing. No judgment here just gossipy. Many pot-shots taken on his masculinity this season. Don't blame the wives one bit. Imagining him in red satin teddy.

Dominating the news is the fired Penn State football coach and ongoing rape cover-up. Nothing beats the vileness of the abuse itself but outraged crowds supporting those who covered it up belong in landfill.

Dish being very castrating.

Deep Thoughts on the Emmys

Why are award shows so lame? The writers just aren't funny, the stars are acting same-old and the speeches are repetitive. How many times can you hear, "I didn't prepare anything to say. I didn't think I would win." Dish likes scandal and crazy at her awards-- like Meryl Streep saying she needs to do yoga or Jack Nicholson's talking through his butt or, yes, Ricky Gervais who makes the stars/audience tense. I love Jane Lynch. I thought she did a good job as hostess--especially the "why I'm a lesbian" and introducing the cast of Entourage, but the show dragged. Cut Emmytones, SNL dance/song number--make it a 2-hour show.

Highlights: Charlie Sheen was gracious indeed. Some lovely dresses, though Christina Hendricks's boobies are two giant air bags squashed into a dress. I couldn't look at anything else. Rainn Wilson tweeted his rage that Steve Carrell didn't get an Emmy and I'm right with him there. Kathy Griffin--looking great in red--kissed Ryan Seacrest, an abomination.

Dish was on vacation today and, aside from speculating about Jennifer Aniston being preggo or not (wearing big coat does NOT help!), watched Limitless. I still believe--for no reason--that Bradley Cooper tortures small animals (his French is better than mine so must hate him!) but keep giving him a chance. He is competent in this sh*t-fest that is an obvious reference to our current drug culture. It might have been more interesting if Billy Crudup had been cast. Robert De Niro does his usual mentoring and you have to wonder why he's in so many crappy movies. The biggest philosophical question Dish must raise: If we can take a pill to realize our fullest potential, doesn't that mean no contact with others? When you bring the hell that is other people into the mix, that renders us vulnerable and imperfect. OMG, whole point of movie. Brilliance.

That took so much effort. Time for Dancing with the Stars!!!

Blessings on Dolores Hope who passed away at 102.

Nothing Against Irene...

...but reaction to her has already annoyed me. I know, catastrophes make you reach out to others. Though with 9/11, Facebook hadn't been an issue. You were out of touch, but you called and emailed people. Now it's the FB status updates that are setting off my stereotypical red-headed temper: "Light rain so far..." "Oh...it's looking gloomy." "OMG, so bored." So am I. Maybe it's that everyone has become a broadcaster (including me), maybe it's because even the broadcasters are melodramatic. Maybe it's because I'm in Canada and can't experience the anxiety firsthand. People are vulnerable so one should be compassionate. Right now I'm Irened out and she hasn't really hit NYC. Though...I will admit FB did prove useful with getting married and knowing that I lived through an earthquake that I didn't feel. Never mind my bad mood.

So enough kvetching, Dish, what's new in celebrity land? There's some news that Ricky Gervais might host the Golden Globes again. I say, Halleluliah! He's one of the few hosts who isn't politically correct and kissing an audience's ass. I hope, hope, hope Jane Lynch is the same for the Emmys. But, yes, please bring on Ricky to make stars remember how privileged they are to wear beautiful clothes and be in movies/television and make...um...art.

I had the fortune of seeing the trailer for Fireflies in the Garden where Julia plays a MOTHER to Ryan Reynolds. I can't tell if it's good, but we do know it's another Serious Julia Movie, where in the crux of the turmoil, she will cry beautifully and at some point, flash her brilliant smile: http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=81556.
